This was written for my Facebook audience, on January 5th, 2018, during second semester sophomore year of high school.
I would like everyone to examine themselves before we start the festivities and see, does this apply to me or not? Am I coming to church just as a showoff or not? Am I coming to see the deacons perform or am I coming to recieve renewal of my soul and a new birth of grace within me? What do I want to achieve this feast? More weight from food and sin and useless talk? Or to achieve purity and holiness in the presence of God? Am I coming to celebrate MY new clothes and MY beautiful voice and MY gorgeous makeup and MY disgusting personality that needs cleaning from God? Or am I here to repent, and start fresh, and celebrate the birth of the only one who has true meaning in my life, the one who truly can clean my sins away and make me new? Im not saying that celebrating with friends is wrong or ungodly, for we are all called to fellowship in Christ Jesus as one body. But what I’m furious at is the attitude we go in to Church on this sacred feast, where we forget the true meaning of Christmas. Instead of making posts about “Put Christ back in Christmas” let’s put ourselves in Christ and we can then, and only then, truly celebrate Christmas. A lesson I learned this Christmas is that sometimes you have a great time celebrating this day. Other times you are alone without anyone to celebrate it with. But let’s not forget the true meaning behind this, that this day, which is today, a child was born alone with his family and no one cared to ask about him except some shepherds who saw a revelation and the Magi who knew with observation, that the true light has shone today in a small town, in an even smaller manger that was dirty and desolate. Let’s not forget today to be Christ for others just like Christ came for us. We are called to be a light to the world, and a light cannot stay hidden. Jesus, my friends, came with a mission, to save the world from the evil that encompasses our society. It all started though with a birth that was beyond miracles from a virgin beyond holiness in a place beyond ugliness and filthiness. To sum it up, live Christmas and carry the newborn Christ as you enter this year.
That was my two cents on this.
Happy Feast of the Nativity Everyone
